Marianna Varga is giving an invited talk at 16:00 on 7 November 2024 at the Juhász Gyula Faculty of Education of the University of Szeged (6725 Szeged, Hattyas sor 10., Building 3, Room 3021) with the title “When I look at you, I immediately remember why the smile of the man lying under the tram is not sincere” – The mysteries of threatening messages lacking taboo words.

The presentation first illustrates the different forms of linguistic aggression by analyzing threatening letters, posts, and comments, focusing particularly on the less obvious cases. After that, it will give an insight into linguistic profiling, answering the question of how the relationship between the threatener and the target person can influence the style of the text.
